| Griffin Centre Expressive Arts Classes Offered by Griffin Centre The Griffin Centre provides an adult day program for individuals with a developmental disability and/or dual diagnosis 16 years or older. The program is transitional and individuals can attend for up to 1 year. Based on a college model (and run from the George Brown College King campus), participants can choose from a number of life skills classes to create an individualized schedule ranging from one class /week to full time attendance. The program is structured to support individuals with or without day supports. In partnership with George Brown college who has provided our teacher, Griffin’s TSSDP is pleased to provide a new and exciting class to the schedule in February - Expressive Arts! The Expressive Arts class will focus on teaching clients new and interesting ways to express themselves using a variety of art materials. No previous art experience is necessary and all are welcome. Clients may experiment with materials such as paint, collage, and clay to express themselves visually through both individual and group projects. The focus will be on clients’ self-exploration in a safe and non-judgmental atmosphere, and learning how to transfer those skills outside of the classroom environment. Some art projects will be provided, however clients will also be encouraged to create freely at their own pace and comfort level. Although the focus will be on visual arts, other modalities such as music and movement may be included. All art created belongs to the clients and will be kept confidential if desired. | |
