Progressive Independent Living Program (PIL)
Offered by Bob Rumball Centre for the Deaf

The Progressive Independent Living Program is a residential program. It is based upon assisting the individual resident with developing his/her skills in the area of communication, daily living, community awareness and behaviour management.

The Progressive Independent Living program believes that by providing the training and learning experiences in the above mentioned areas, the individual resident will learn living skills, which will assist them in developing their independence.

Staff members always strive to maintain a caring and positive living environment for the residents and assist them in building their self-esteem and sense of individuality.

How to Apply1. Non-violent for a minimum for three years
2. NOT in need of intense behaviour modification or time out facilities and care
3. Have demonstrated the potential and desire to live in the community in the future
4. Deaf
5. Additional disability or situation that impedes normal development
6. Must express the desire to live in the program and want to improve in all areas of life skills
7. Eighteen years of age and over

Comments
There is a twelve week assessment period to determine if the applicant will benefit from the program. An application must be filled out by the individual, family, guardian or
referring agency. A pre-admission medical form must be completed by the individual's doctor and must accompany the application form. Psychological Assessment as well as Audiological Assessment results may be required before applicant can be processed.

Please note: A waiting list may be in effect.
